Venessa's Big Thank You Event!

Okay, so  I have gotten a proof of the Ascending the Veil: Book 3 cover back from K.C. Design, who rocked it....of course, there was never a doubt in my mind.  I am just so thankful that I got the shot being that I was the photographer of the cover model!

I wanted to give the fans and readers something special! A special thank you that would set them apart!  So,  for those that buy, read, review PtF: Book 1 and StR: Book 2, post links, and email me  between the said dates of the event,  they will receive the cover reveal of AtV: Book 3 before anyone else in the world!  They will get it in there hot little hands before the cover is officially revealed!

And,  right now each book, PtF:Book 1 and StR: Book 2 are being offered for 99 pennies each in ebook format on Amazon, Smashwords.com, and at B&N for Nook!

I can't wait to hear what readers have to say about the first half of this series and I can't wait to start sending out their thank yous from my writing cave!

Cover Photo Shoot News! Ascending the Veil: Piercing the Fold Book 3

This morning, I had no idea that I would be having impromptu photo shoot with the cover model of my third novel, Ascending the Veil: Book 3.
Today, was the day I planned on coordinating stock photo images with my amazing cover designer, K.C. Designs.  Katie is phenomenal and has done Piercing the Fold: Book 1 and Surfacing the Rim: Book 2 covers for me.  I trust her so much with the covers for this series.  I was pulling together the stock photos that I wanted to use for the cover.  Katie and I were going back and forth via email and Facebook about pros and cons of images.
At one point,  her and I scratched what we had and resorted back to looking at thousands of images.
That is when I had  a moment of clarity....I think it was after my herbal green tea, and before my second cup of coffee.
I realized that the cover model (Jesca)  resembled a woman that has become a very close and dear friend of mine since our move to Amarillo, Texas.  It is sheer coincidence  that she  resembles the main character I have been writing about for 3 1/2  years now. I had already published Piercing the Fold: Book 1 before I met Brandi M.   I know...  *goosebumps*

Next, the supplies and photographer. I received an awesome Canon Rebel t2i last Mother's Day.  I am a novice at best when it comes to photography.  Hell,  my camera has been solely used for Mamarrazi duty! Today was the day to break that mold for my Canon Rebel and for myself.

Third,  talk my amazing friend into allowing me to take her photo for the cover of my next book without freaking her out!   She was great about it.  Flattered that I thought of her to be my cover model. Her immediate reaction was "When?".   Mine, "Today."
Being the trooper that she is, she said that we could meet this evening!

I arrived  15 minutes early.  I am sure  professional photographers have a checklist of things they do prior to, during, and after a photo shoot to make sure their shoot is organized.  I, on the other hand, had my camera bag,  my two lenses, my imagination,  and an eye for what I wanted the cover to convey.  I knew I was going to have to take quite a few shots.  Came out to about 90 photos of the same shot.  I took it from up high, down low,  panning to the left then right, snapping the entire time,  to get the right lighting and angle.  Stopping, looking at what I had, and snapping some more.  It is kind of insane, but one of my favorite shots of my model was  the third shot in; the lighting and angle was superb. My dear, dear friend and model, Brandi, couldn't have been more flexible and receptive throughout the shoot. She wanted it to be just right for my cover and actually said we could keep shooting after the 90 shots.
I was able to narrow down the shots to my top 20 favorites.  I am going to send them over to my cover design guru tonight so we can start working on molding the cover tomorrow.
Being an Author has opened me up to so many opportunities, bringing out every aspect of artistic abilities I have within me.
Yeah, I was a ball of nerves.  Going out on a limb and doing a photo shoot for the cover of my book, was not in my comfort zone.    And, for about a millisecond, I wondered what others may think of me shooting the cover for  my novel.
Then, I peeled away that thin layer of insecurity and said, "Screw it,  I can do this!"

Needless to say,  I can not wait to share the cover with you.   It will be a bit though.  Lots has to happen to get the cover just right. I hope to release the cover some time in July 2013.

A huge thank you to my dear friend (and cover model extraordinaire)  Brandi M.
~ (P.S.)  Dosaritas are on me girl!

Thanks so much for keeping up with my blog!    ~V
